I married Isis on the fifth day of May,
התחתנתי עם אייזיס ביום החמישי לחודש מאי

But I could not hold on to her very long.
אבל לא הצלחתי להישאר איתה יותר מידי

So I cut off my hair and I rode straight away
אז גזרתי את שערי ועזבתי מיד

For the wild unknown country where I could not go wrong.
למען האזור הכפרי, הפרוע והלא נודע,שבו לא יכולתי לטעות

I came to a high place of darkness and light.
הגעתי למקום גבוה של חושך ואור

The dividing line ran through the center of town.
הקו המפריד עבר דרך מרכז העיר

I hitched up my pony to a post on the right,
קשרתי את הפוני שלי לעמוד מצד ימין

Went in to a laundry to wash my clothes down.
נכנסתי למכבסה לכבס את בגדיי

A man in the corner approached me for a match.
איש בפינה פנה אליי בשביל אש

I knew right away he was not ordinary.
ידעתי מיד שהוא לא איש רגיל

He said, "Are you lookin' for somethin' easy to catch?"
הוא אמר "אתה מחפש משהו קל?"

I said, "I got no money." He said, "That ain't necessary."
אמרתי, " אין לי כסף". הוא אמר, "זה לא נידרש"




We set out that night for the cold in the North.
יצאנו לדרך לקור של הצפון

I gave him my blanket, he gave me his word.
נתתי לו את השמיכה שלי, והוא נתן לי את מילתו

I said, "Where are we goin'?" He said we'd be back by the fourth
אמרתי"לאן הולכים?", הוא אמר נהיה בחזרה עד הרביעי (לחודש)

I said, "That's the best news that I've ever heard."
אמרתי " אלו החדשות הטובות ביותר ששמעתי מעולם"

I was thinkin' about turquoise, I was thinkin' about gold,
חשבתי על טורקיז (נופך,אבן חן) חשבתי על זהב

I was thinkin' about diamonds and the world's biggest necklace.
חשבתי על יהלומים ועל שרשרת ענקית

As we rode through the canyons, through the devilish cold,
כשרכבנו בקניונים בקור המקפיא

I was thinkin' about Isis, how she thought I was so reckless.
חשבתי איך אייזיס תמיד חשבה שאני לא אחראי

How she told me that one day we would meet up again,
איך שהיא אמרה לי שיום אחד ניפגש שוב

And things would be different the next time we wed,
ופני הדברים יראו אחרת בפעם הבאה שנתחתן

If I only could hang on and just be her friend.
אם הייתי יכול להחזיק מעמד ורק להשאר חבר שלה

I still can't remember all the best things she said.
אני עדיין לא מצליח לזכור את כל הדברים הטובים יותר שהיא אמרה




We came to the pyramids all embedded in ice.
הגענו לפירמידות המכוסות בקרח

He said, "There's a body I'm tryin' to find.
הוא אמר, "יש פה גופה שאני מחפש"

If I carry it out it'll bring a good price."
אם אמצא אותה אקבל עבורה כסף רב

'T'was then that I knew what he had on his mind.
רק אז הבנתי, מה היו התוכניות שלו

The wind it was howlin' and the snow was outrageous.
הרוח יללה ווהשלג היה בלתי נסבל

We chopped through the night and we chopped through the dawn.
המשכנו בלילה והמשכנו עד עלות השחר

When he died I was hopin' that it wasn't contagious,

But I made up my mind that I had to go on.

I broke into the tomb, but the casket was empty.

There was no jewels, no nothin', I felt I'd been had.

When I saw that my partner was just bein' friendly,

When I took up his offer I must-a been mad.

I picked up his body and I dragged him inside,
הרמתי את גופתו וגררתי אותה פנימה

Threw him down in the hole and I put back the cover.
זרקתי אותו לבור והחזרתי את המכסה

I said a quick prayer and I felt satisfied.
אמרתי תפילה קצרה  והרגשתי מסופק

Then I rode back to find Isis just to tell her I love her.
אחר כך רכבתי בחזרה לאייזיס רק כדי להגיד לה שאני אוהב אותה

She was there in the meadow where the creek used to rise.
היא היתה שם באחו ליד הנחל הנובע

Blinded by sleep and in need of a bed,
גמורה ללא שינה וזקוקה למיטה

I came in from the East with the sun in my eyes.
אני באתי מהמזרח כולי מואר

I cursed her one time then I rode on ahead.
קיללתי אותה והמשכתי הלאה




She said, "Where ya been?" I said, "No place special."
היא אמרה" איפה היית?" אמרתי" בשום מקום מיוחד"
She said, "You look different." I said, "Well, I guess."
היא אמרה, " אתה נראה שונה." אמרתי, "כנראה"

She said, "You been gone." I said, "That's only natural."
היא אמרה, "לא היית פה", אמרתי, " הגיוני"

She said, "You gonna stay?" I said, "If you want me to, yeah."
היא אמרה, "אתה נישאר?" אמרתי, " אם את רוצה, כן"




Isis, oh, Isis, you mystical child.
אייזיס,הו ,אייזיס, אתה ילדה מיסטית

What drives me to you is what drives me insane.
הדבר שמוביל אותי אלייך זה אותו דבר שמשגע אותי

I still can remember the way that you smiled
אני עדיין זוכר את האופן בו חייכת

On the fifth day of May in the drizzlin' rain.
ביום החמישי בחודש מאי ביום קצת גשום
